We’ve all heard that this year marks 100 years since some women first got the vote, but how much do we really know about the extraordinary struggle of the Suffragettes?

East London-based author and historian Diane Atkinson’s new book Rise Up, Women! The Remarkable Lives of the Suffragettes is the definitive history of women’s fight for the vote, focussing on the stories of the women who took part.

Hear her bring to life the daring, and often violent struggle that women endured to break into the male-only political system.

She'll illuminate and celebrate the incredibly moving stories behind these brave women who changed history, from hunger strikes and force-feeding to torching public monuments.

Tickets are free for members and £3 for non-members.

All proceeds from our cultural programme go to the Kibera Hamlets School in Nairobi, where Second Home has funded the construction of a new school building designed by our architects Selgas Cano.
