Champion the power of poetry at the Second Home Poetry Festival.
A week-long series of eclectic events will showcase both established names and emerging talent in poetry, with performances, discussions and special guests.
Tuesday 5 June, 6:30pm – Yrsa Daley-Ward: The Terrible
Poet, feminist, model and LGBTQ activist Yrsa Daley Ward opens the festival with discussion on and readings from her new memoir – The Terrible.
Wednesday 6 June, 6:30pm – Andrew McMillan, Sabrina Mahfouz and Inua Ellams
A diverse, energetic triple bill featuring performances from Andrew McMillan, Sabrina Mahfouz and Inua Ellams.
Thursday 7 June, 6:30pm – Malika Booker and the Poetry Kitchen
Hear the amazing origin story of the Poetry Kitchen including performances from co-founder Malika Booker and other members of the poetry kitchen.
Friday 8 June, 6:30pm – The Forward Prizes: Vahni Capildeo, Nick Makoha and Mary Jean Chan
An evening with Britain’s most coveted poetry awards, with a star-studded line-up celebrating the best new voices in poetry.
Saturday 9 June, 10am – 8pm – A bold and joyous celebration of poetry including workshops, installations, discussions and performances with special guest headliners.
10am – Writing Place with Anthony Anaxagorou
A poetry workshop on the theme of place with award-winning writer Anthony Anaxagorou.
2pm – Poetry Picnic: Afternoon Open Mic
An interactive afternoon including an open mic session, creative workshops, performances, food and drinks all over Second Home and its beautiful courtyard.
5pm – Saturday Showcase: Speaking What's Inside
A performance showcase celebrating poets who write about identity – hosted by award-winning poet Anthony Anaxagorou – and including a special guest appearance from the Young People’s Laureate for London.
7pm – Special Guest headliner – Momtaza Mehri
“The new face of London’s poetry scene” (BBC) will headline the Second Home Poetry Festival.
This is part of Second Home Poetry Festival running from 6-9 June. All profits will be donated to The Rugby Portobello Trust who support programmes set up in response to the fire at Grenfell Tower.
