Join us for an evening with Asylum Speakers and Giel, who will share his personal story and explore how storytelling can shift perceptions, foster empathy, and rebuild understanding. All profits from Second Home’s Nov & Dec fundraising events will support an initiative to fund bringing real refugee voices into UK schools: ensuring young British audiences hear the human stories behind the headlines.

10th December Second Home will be hosting an intimate evening with Giel, South Sudanese speaker and refugee rights advocate and Jaz O’Hara founder of Asylum speakers.

Giel (South Sudan):A South Sudanese speaker and advocate for refugee rights, Giel’s work is rooted in his own powerful journey. At just 16, he crossed land and sea in search of safety, facing imprisonment, modern-day slavery, and unimaginable hardships along the way. Now living in the UK, Giel is both a student and a model. Within refugee communities, he is known for his extraordinary courage, including saving the lives of hundreds of imprisoned refugees in Libya.

Jaz O’Hara (UK): Founder of Asylum Speakers, Jaz is a prominent voice in the migration space. She’s shared her message everywhere from TEDx stages to the United Nations in New York. She is also a motivational speaker, author, and podcaster—but perhaps most importantly, she’s the big sister to five refugee brothers from Eritrea, Afghanistan, Sudan, and Libya.
