Hear the amazing origin story of the Poetry Kitchen, told by those who started it…
From a group of young poets sitting around a kitchen table in south London, The Poetry Kitchen was founded to create a nourishing community of writers dedicated to the development of their writing craft.
Now it's a firmly established writers collective which has supported the likes of Inua Ellams, Warsan Shire and Aoife Mannix.
Hosted by the director of the collective, Jill Abram, this evening will include performances from co-founder Malika Booker and other members of the poetry kitchen.
Malika Booker is an international writer whose work is steeped in anthropological research methodology and rooted in storytelling. Her writing spans poetry, theatre, monologue, installation, and education.
This is part of Second Home Poetry Festival running from 6-9 June. All profits will be donated to The Rugby Portobello Trust who support programmes set up in response to the fire at Grenfell Tower.
