The story of a pop-up that turned into LA Times Restaurant of the Year in the midst of a pandemic.

Hear LA’s hottest chef Minh Phan and the brilliant author of the award-winning Women in Food, Charlotte Druckman, discuss Minh’s radical journey and the story of Phenakite – a one-off pop up hosted at Second Home Hollywood, conceived in ten days and named LA Times restaurant of the year.

Buried under tsunamis of takeout boxes, upheaval of social change, and unending pivots during Covid, PHENAKITEstarted as a fine dining art project, reflecting and contemplating the issues at hand, providing thoughtful culinary respite, beauty, joy.

Chef Minh Phan is a proud Angeleno who has been cooking professionally for almost two decades, creating and tinkering her entire life. She currently helms two critically-acclaimed Modern Californian restaurants PHENAKITE at Second Home Los Angeles and porridge + puffs.

Charlotte Druckman is a journalist and food writer whose work has appeared in the likes of the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Food and Wine and Bon Appetit. She conceived and edited the James Beard Award-nominated collection “Women on Food” and is the author of “Skirt Steak: Women Chefs on Standing the Heat and Staying in the Kitchen.
